ShopOffen.

Your shop, open to everyone.

Since 28 June 2025 the European Accessibility Act applies across the EU — Germany’s BFSG, Austria’s BaFG, France’s, Italy’s and every other national law that implements it. Online shops that sell to consumers have to meet EN 301 549. When the authorities check, they start with automated tests plus the formal duties. We run exactly that first pass — beforehand, for you, and free: an automatic scan of your shop’s core pages plus a check for an accessibility statement, as a clear report with how to fix each finding.

Does the law apply to you?

Three questions, an honest answer — many small shops are exempt, and we will tell you so.

1. Does your shop sell to consumers (B2C)?
2. Does your business have 10 or more employees?
3. Is your annual turnover or balance-sheet total above €2 million?

This is a rough guide based on the microenterprise exemption in Directive (EU) 2019/882 as the member states implement it — not legal advice.

Why now

What is at stake.

27 countries

One directive, in force everywhere in the EU since June 2025 — each country sets its own penalties (Germany: up to €100,000).

30 million

blind and partially sighted people live in Europe (European Blind Union) — they shop with screen readers, zoom and high contrast.

95.9%

of the world’s top million home pages have accessibility errors a scanner can find (WebAIM Million 2026) — shops are no exception.

No plugin

“Accessibility toolbars” that promise compliance with one line of code do not fix the shop itself — the European Disability Forum warns against them. We show you what to fix instead.

How it works

A URL in. A fix list out.

01

Enter your URL

Just the shop’s address — no email, no account, no cost.

02

Automatic scan

Your core pages (home, category, product, cart) are tested against EN 301 549 / WCAG 2.1 AA — and we look for a link to an accessibility statement.

03

Report right away

Usually within 1–3 minutes, then available for 30 days at its own link — easy to pass on to your developer or agency. Every finding explained: what, where, which requirement, how to fix it — sorted by urgency.

The report

What is checked.

  • Automated scan of your core pages — contrast, text alternatives, structure, form labels, against EN 301 549 / WCAG 2.1 AA
  • Accessibility statement — is one linked from your home page? Every report includes a template
  • Robot checks of what used to need a person — keyboard tab-through, zoom to 320 px, what a screen reader announces on a product page, a way to report barriers
  • Microenterprise check at the top of this page — many small shops are not covered at all
  • A reference for every finding — you can verify each one
Cost

Free. No catch.

ShopOffen is our contribution to a web where more people can shop. No email, no account: enter the address, read the report. Up to five checks a day; after your fixes, simply run it again.

To be honest: ShopOffen is a private automated check — the same kind of first pass the authorities typically begin with. It is not a conformity certificate and not legal advice, and no automated check can certify “EAA compliance” — whoever promises that is selling you an overlay.
